Wolf Alice have won the 2018 Mercury prize, announced on Thursday (September 20), for their second album, 2017's Visions of a Life. The award is worth 25,000 pounds.
On receiving the trophy, frontperson Ellie Rowsell said it meant so much to pick it up with her three best friends. Bassist Theo Ellis recalled how the band were knocked back by a record label head over their image, including Rowsell wearing makeup.
Ahead of the ceremony, Rowsell struggled to express how appreciative they were for the nomination. At the show, the London four-piece performed their single Don't Delete the Kisses. The album had been described by the Guardian as an exuberant jumble.
