A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, the 1975's third album, arrived on Thursday (November 29) and is described by Pitchfork as attesting to the worth of putting in an honest effort in the face of near-constant gloom.
According to the review, the band led by Matty Healy has made its name on an unruly brand of abundance: musically, referentially, emotionally. The new record pushes that trait to its limit with an eclectic mix of styles.
For the review, such a riot of excess may make a casual observer ask who these guys think they are. But that judgment would be misguided: the group is, in the review's words, a thrillingly unreasonable band for unreasonable times.
