Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, SOPHIE's debut album, arrived on Friday (June 15) and is described by Pitchfork as sprawling and beautiful, letting her experimental language relax into new forms.
Since 2013, SOPHIE had carved out an instantly identifiable vernacular built on synthesized bubble sounds, brash treble, deep bass and distended, anonymous vocals.
According to the review, the album adapts the technical strategies of her previous work to looser, more sprawling compositions. Instead of chaining together compact singles as on 2015's Product, she lets the tracks develop without losing the disorienting feel of her latex-pop production.
