PJ Harvey released her 10th studio album, I Inside the Old Year Dying, on July 7, 2023, via Partisan Records. It is her first album of new material since 2016's The Hope Six Demolition Project.

The album grew out of Orlam, a book-length poem Harvey published in 2022 and wrote in the Dorset dialect of southwest England. The songs adapt 12 of the poems into a sound of dark folk, restrained guitars and ambient noise.

The first taste was A Child's Question, August. The album was produced by Flood and John Parish, Harvey's longtime collaborators.

Critics received the work as one of the most experimental and introspective of her career, with fewer choruses and more attention to language and atmosphere.
