Now Only, Mount Eerie's album released on Friday (March 16), is the expansive companion to A Crow Looked at Me, the 2017 record in which Phil Elverum addressed his wife's death. Pitchfork's review says the new work is no less a marvel.
For the review, Elverum's music feels like a conversation: songs that move at a relaxed pace, quiet and hypnotic, sung in a boyish voice amid passages of near-silence, as if to invite private reflection.
The album returns to the musician's personal mythology, which involves his hometown of Anacortes, Washington, the shape of the universe and humanity's place in it. It is part memoir and part magnum opus, according to the review.
