Good News, Megan Thee Stallion's album, arrived on Tuesday (November 24), made amid a pandemic and while the rapper was recovering from a gunshot wound. Pitchfork's review describes an album that purposefully celebrates life.
The review notes that recovering from a shooting involves brutal procedures, with rib cages cracked open and invasive surgery, on top of the emotional trauma of being a 25-year-old Black woman with millions of people watching, some of whom believe she lied about or instigated the attack.
After settling scores on Shots Fired over the same sample Biggie used in Who Shot Ya?, she turns her attention to more pressing matters, according to the review. The beats are playful and the rapping is as sharp as ever.
The album ends with the hugely successful Savage Remix plus the singles Girls in the Hood and Don't Stop, a finish the review calls exultant. The tracks before them range from slinky and sexy to dance-routine ready and throbbing with 808s.
