MJ Lenderman shared his take on Lambchop's “Weakened” on Tuesday (October 27). He sings and plays bass and guitar on the track alongside Fog's Andrew Broder.
The original appears on Punching the Clown, Lambchop's album from August. The new version opens Demoed, an EP collecting demo covers of songs from that record by a younger generation of musicians.
Kurt Wagner, who leads the Nashville band, recruited Lauren Auder, Circuit des Yeux with Alan Sparhawk, Channy Leaneagh, Dan Wriggins, Flock of Dimes and More Eaze. The EP has seven tracks, out digitally November 20 and physically February 5.
“I used to fantasize that Lambchop would continue as an idea well beyond my participation,” Wagner said in press materials. “Over time we've had at least two generations represented. A third now is beginning. And this is important to me, having the unique perspective and contributions from younger artists steering in the work we make.”
Lenderman released his most recent solo album, Manning Fireworks, in 2024. Last year he put out a live album with Karly Hartzman recorded at Nashville's Third Man Records, and this spring he toured with Waxahatchee.
