Klaus Schulze, German composer and multi-instrumentalist, died on April 26, 2022, at 74, after a long illness. His representatives announced the death on April 27.
Schulze was a founding member of Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel, central groups of German cosmic rock in the 1970s. As a solo artist, he released more than 60 albums and helped shape ambient, techno and trance with long, hypnotic compositions.
He was called the godfather of techno by later generations of artists. His final album, Deus Arrakis, was completed before his death and released in July 2022.
Schulze's work remains one of the foundations of European electronic music, with an influence spanning the Berlin School, ambient and the dancefloor.
