Kevin Morby and Lonnie Holley have released the single Nursery Rhyme, with proceeds going to gun safety efforts. Morby originally wrote the song in the summer of 2025, and it arrives weeks after a fatal school shooting in Bend, Oregon.

In a statement, Morby said it is far and away the darkest and most violent song he has ever written. He said it is hard to know what else to do in a country where the powers that be worship weapons of mass destruction and value profits over lives.

The track comes 10 years after another Morby song about violence, Beautiful Strangers, which addressed the Pulse nightclub shooting and the death of Freddie Gray. The new single keeps the same kind of direct response to violence in the United States.
