Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus are back as Junior Boys with the album The Gore, the follow-up to 2022's Waiting Game. The record has 11 tracks and is led by the single Underneath the Moon.
According to Greenspan, the song is deeply inspired by the 2022 horror film Skinamarink. He said he used old tape loop techniques on an old Tascam tape machine to achieve a number of the effects, as a homage to the ephemeral quality of analog recording.
The album was written over several years, in the wake of the deaths of his father and a close friend, and carries an openly dark mood. The tracklist includes Night Service, The Tabernacle, Ligeia and Kill Baby Kill.
With no tour dates on the docket yet, the duo have lined up album playbacks early next year in Brooklyn, Seattle and Toronto. Each event begins with a screening of the experimental film Wavelength and ends with a Q&A with Greenspan.
