Everything But the Girl have announced a new album, Blue Reservoir, out February 19 via Buzzin' Fly/Virgin Music Group. It features 10 originals, the duo's first batch of new material since 2023's Fuse.
Fuse marked Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt's return after a 24-year break. Blue Reservoir follows that comeback and took shape partly onstage: the pair played a residency at London venue Moth Club last year, and those shows helped set the direction of the new songs.
The announcement arrives with the single Young and Dumb and a video shot at Moth Club, directed by Edward Bishop from a treatment by the duo. “There was an intensity and simplicity to the Moth shows that took us back to how we started out,†Thorn said. “Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colors.â€
Watt wrote and performed much of the album on a Spanish nylon-string guitar. “It is the sound of so much of the music I first connected with growing up, and I'd never actually owned one,†he said. “It became quite an emotional springboard for me. I found a voice I thought I'd lost.â€
Longtime collaborators Rex Horan and Evan Jenkins play double bass and drums on the record, joined by percussionist Fabio de Oliveira. The tracklist runs Forward, Scala, Young and Dumb, Do What You Can, Christmas Gone, Courage Mon Brave, The Round and Round, Fork in the Road, Good Hope and The Great Unknown.
