how i'm feeling now, Charli XCX's album, arrived on Tuesday (May 19), conceived and created entirely at home in quarantine in Los Angeles over six weeks. The process began with a mid-March Twitter note in which she wondered how to keep creating during the pandemic.
Pitchfork's review notes that the album sings of love, loneliness and solo partying, and was built in and for this very moment. For those who followed the process through interviews, livestreams and screenshots, part of the joy is seeing how her song sketches and notes-app lyrics turned out.
Its sound stays true to the sugary club pop she has explored since the 2016 Vroom Vroom EP, without the reflective gloss or the celebrity guest list of 2019's Charli. A. G. Cook, Bon Iver collaborator BJ Burton and 100 gecs' Dylan Brady all receive co-production credits.
