Beth Gibbons released her first solo album, Lives Outgrown, on May 17, 2024, via Domino. The Portishead singer spent about a decade completing the project with producer James Ford and additional production from Talk Talk's Lee Harris.
The record moves away from the trip-hop that made Portishead famous and leans into chamber arrangements, strings, restrained percussion and experimental folk. The lyrics deal with aging, loss, motherhood and mortality, with an intimacy that contrasts with the mystery that has long surrounded the singer.
Lives Outgrown arrives more than two decades after Out of Season, her 2002 collaboration with Rustin Man. The album was received as one of her most personal releases and appeared prominently in year-end lists.
