Pakistani-born, New York-based singer and composer Arooj Aftab releases her third album, Vulture Prince, on April 23, 2021, via Verve. The record is dedicated to the artist's brother, Maher, who died before the project was completed.
Vulture Prince blends ghazal, jazz, ambient and South Asian classical music, with Aftab's voice at the foreground and arrangements of harp, strings and double bass. Mohabbat was one of its most celebrated tracks.
The album was received as one of the year's most original works, with a sound that crosses traditions without settling into labels and a performer who turns grief into a space for listening.
