London singer-songwriter Arlo Parks won the 2021 Mercury Prize on September 9 for her debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams. She received £25,000.
The record blends indie pop, soul and spoken word, with lyrics about youth, mental health, love and identity. Arlo beat nominees including Celeste, Wolf Alice, Laura Mvula, Sault and Berwyn.
The ceremony took place in London, and the prize established the artist as one of the most promising voices of the new British generation.
