Aphex Twin announced his first official release in five years on June 21, 2023. The EP Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / In a Room7 F760 arrives July 28 via Warp Records, with four tracks.

The title track was made available on digital platforms, offering Richard D. James's sound between broken beats, dense synthesizers and ambient passages. The EP follows 2018's Collapse.

The release was received as a quiet but characteristic return from the producer: no interviews, little information and a distinct visual identity. The digital edition later received a version with four extra tracks, re-recorded and mastered differently by James himself.

Aphex Twin remains one of the most influential names in British electronic music, with a catalog spanning the ambient of Selected Ambient Works to the experiments of Drukqs.
