On October 31, 2000, Godsmack released Awake. The American band's second album consolidated the heavy sound that had put them on the map in the late 1990s.

The record kept the riff-and-drums foundation and widened the group's presence on rock radio and at festivals.

The date marks the release of a record representative of commercial metal in the early 2000s.
